Bill "Bear" Kennedy played only three seasons of Varsity Hockey, yet was regarded by his contemporaries as the Blues most talented, popular and respected player. He was the leading scorer on the 1958-59 championship team and placed 2nd in league scoring. He was captain and 2nd in team scoring in 1960-61. In 1961-62, Kennedy was an assistant captain, All-Star centre, team scoring leader and led Blues to the league championship
Kennedy also was an assistant trainer with the Football Blues in 1960 and 1961, and was also active in men's and women's intramural hockey at Victoria College.
Kennedy played on Memorial Cup champions with the Toronto Marlboroughs in 1954-55 and 1955-56, and rejected an NHL pro career to attend university. He was named to the 1960 Olympic team but decided not to play. He was also a member of 8 city and provincial Baseball teams. He taught at East York Collegiate and at Cedarbrae Collegiate in Scarborough.
His widow, Jean Kennedy-Steggles, is Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation at Ryerson. Their children are Varsity athletes: Michael (PHE 9T4) in Badminton and Erin (Medicine 9T5) in Water Polo.
