International rowing star Kate Cochrane etched her name into U of T history. She began her athletic career as a member of the OWIAA championship cross country team during the 1986-87 season. In the following year, Kate was on the indoor track and field team, and in 1988-89 competed for the Nordic skiing team. Kate found her calling in rowing and lead the Blues to their first OWIAA championship banner in 1990. She garnered gold medals in both the lightweight fours and eights and went on to earn two titles at the Canadian
rowing championships.

In that same year, Kate led her crew to the top of the podium at the lightweight championship at the University of Rochester Regatta, as well as a silver medal at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.

A 1991 Rhodes Scholar, she was invited to the selection camp for the 1991 Pan American Games before joining the Oxford rowing team in 1992-93.

Upon her return to the University of Toronto, Kate joined the Varsity Blues mountain bike team that was crowned the 1999 Ontario University Cup
