1983-84 Men’s Hockey
OUAA and CIAU Champions

Coached by 1994 Stanley Cup champion Mike Keenan, the 1983-84 Varsity Blues men’s hockey team went 20-1-3 to finish atop the OUAA standings. The Blues ended the regular season on a six-game win streak and continued their winning ways, going 7-0 and outscoring their opponents 50-15 in the post season while earning both provincial and national titles.

Toronto defeated the Western Mustangs 2-1 and 5-2 to sweep the OUAA final series and claim their second provincial banner in three seasons. U of T then dominated the national championships, defeating UQTR 8-3 and 6-1 before topping Concordia 9-1 in the gold medal game to garner their 10th national title.

Andre Hidi was named an OUAA first team all-star and CIS all-Canadian, while also earning the Jack Kennedy Trophy as the MVP in the OUAA playoffs and the CIAU University Cup MVP award. Both he and Mike Pelino were named OUAA first team all-stars, while Darren Boyko and Don McLaughlin were recognized on the second team.

Pelino went onto become the assistant coach of the New York Rangers, while Hidi, Boyko and Ken Duggan all went onto play at least one game in the NHL.  Paul Titanic went coach the Blues from 1985-1995.  Keenan and Pelino are currently coaching in the KHL and recently lead their team to its first title.
