Mary Ann Kowal finished her outstanding University of Toronto basketball career as a first team all-Canadian and a national championship all-star in 1990.

Mary Ann earned numerous individual and team awards while playing for the Blues. She was a three-time first team all-Canadian, a unanimously selected Ontario Player of the Year twice, the University of Toronto Female Athlete of the Year, and tournament all-star and MVP on many occasions.

In 1985-86, the Victoria College and Education graduate was a member of the undefeated Varsity Blues team that went on to win the National Championship with a perfect 30-0 record.

During the 1986-87 season, this Sudbury, Ontario native scored an impressive 949 points in 59 games, ranking her fifth in Ontario and putting her among the nation's Top Ten. That same year she was also number five in Canada in free throw percentage, knocking in 91 per cent of her attempts.

Prior to her time with the Varsity Blues Mary Ann played on four provincial championship teams, and moved on to don the red and white jersey of our national women's basketball team at the junior, student and senior levels.

Mary Ann has also returned to U of T numerous times to give her time as an assistant coach, and as an elementary school teacher in Toronto, she provides a tremendous role model for today's young women; be it in the classroom or on the court.
