Wayne Dunkley is one of only a few Varsity Blues football players to twice be named a CIS all-Canadian. The standout quarterback played five seasons with the Blues, co-captaining the team for three years. He led the OUA East in passing yards from 1970 to 1973 and in 1971 was named both the team’s and OUA’s most valuable player.
Wayne accumulated 45 passing touchdowns between 1969-73, smashing the previous Blues record. To this day, he sits second on the list behind fellow Hall of Fame member Dan Feraday (50 TD passes - 1976-78, 80-81). Wayne also held the top two records for most passing touchdowns in a season.
A natural athlete, the three-time OUAA all-star also played two seasons with the Blues basketball team from 1970 to 1972.
Wayne was selected by the Calgary Stampeders in the 1973 Canadian Football League draft and went on to serve the Blues as an assistant coach for eight seasons (1974-81). In 2001, Wayne was named a member of the Varsity Blues All-Century Team.
