Tony Canzano was the coach of the University of Toronto intercollegiate Boxing team for an unprecedented thirty seven years, from 1946 through 1982. Coaching both the senior and intermediate teams, Tony produced many championships both official intercollegiate competition and invitational tournaments in Canada and United States. Tony exemplified sportsmanship in boxing and instilled this into his student athletes. In 1964, Tony received the Fitness and Amateur Sport Achievement Award for his dedicated organization of amateur boxing at city playgrounds and in the City Junior League. Tony was an active referee and judge of the sport and served on the Ontario Boxing Commission. In March 1982, he received the U of T’s prestigious T.R Loudon Award in recognition of his services “in the advancement of athletics.”
