John Evans was an outstanding offensive and defensive lineman on the Blues from 1948-51, including the championship teams in 1948 and 1951. He won the Johnny Copp Trophy as team MVP in 195O and was elected captain in 1951. His Intramural participation includes Basketball, Football, Hockey and Water Polo. He was a member of the Men's Athletic Directorate from 1949-51 and is the only double winner (1951 and 1952) of the Biggs Trophy, awarded annually to the male undergraduate who has contributed most to University athletics from the standpoint of leadership, sportsmanship and performance.

Evans received a Rhodes Scholarship in 1952, was named Dean of Medicine at McMaster University in 1965 and served as President of the University of Toronto from 1972-78. He is President of Allelix Incorporated in Mississauga and last month was elected Chairman of the Rockefeller Foundation. His twin sons, Michael and Mark, were members of Canada's gold medal coxed 8s crew at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
