The 1988-89 women’s track and field team enjoyed great success, earning the program’s third provincial banner in four years and first-ever national title.

At the OWIAA championships, the Blues outscored the second-place York Yeowomen by an impressive 147-95 score to claim the title. U of T Sports Hall of Fame 2002 inductee Catherine Bond-Mills led the team, scoring in six different events and taking the title in the 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump. Bond-Mills, Elise Braithwaite, Ali Evanoff, Hellen Lavris and Shari Orders were named OWIAA all-stars.

That same season, the Blues went on to claim the CIAU banner in Sherbrooke, Que. Bond-Mills won the CIAU gold medal in high jump. Leslie Wilson took the national long jump title and Braithwaite won the 1000m race. Toronto’s 4x800m relay team also won gold, with the 4x200m squad claiming silver.
