Playing for five years with the Basketball Blues between 1980 and 1986, Pat Melville was a winning force on the team in the early 1980s. She helped to lead the Blues to their first CIAU National Championship in 1986, and was a top player on two consecutive Ontario Championship (1985 and 1986) teams. Women’s basketball at U of T became one of the top programs in Canada during her career. Pat received an All-Canadian award in 1985 and 1986, was named Ontario All-Star in all five years, and was honoured as the Ontario Player of the Year in 1986. In 1986, she became the first Varsity player to be selected as CIAU Basketball Player of the Year (Nan Copp Trophy) and was also voted the U of T Athlete of the Year. Pat set league records for career total points, points per game, season field goal percentage and career rebounds. She played on the Canadian Junior National Team, Student National and Senior Team while playing at U of T, and spent the 1983-84 season with a semi-professional team in England.
