As an athlete, Dafoe competed on three Varsity teams: Hockey (Junior 1913-14, Senior 1914-15, President of Club and Captain of Blues team in 1919-2O which toured in the USA); Lacrosse (1914 and captain in 1919); Soccer (member of intercollegiate champions in 1914 and captain of intercollegiate champions in 1919).

He coached the Hockey Blues for two seasons, winning the intercollegiate title and the Allan Cup in 192O-21 and the intercollegiate title again in 1922. He also coached the Lacrosse Blues from 192O-24 and again in 1926-27.

Dafoe's administrative contributions include more than 2O years of service on the men's Athletic Directorate(student member 1919-2O, graduate member 192O-24, faculty representative 194O-55), and in 192O-21 he was chairman of the Advisory Committees for Lacrosse and Soccer and a member of the Hockey Advisory Committee. In 1928 he organized the men's intramural box lacrosse league and donated the Dafoe Cup to the championship team. He was elected a Life Member of the men's Athletic Association in 1949 and in 1955 the Athletics Advisory Board donated the Dafoe Trophy for annual presentation to the Most Valuable Player on the Hockey Blues.

One of Canada's leading obstetricians, he was an Associate Professor in the U of T Faculty of Medicine for many years. Dr. Dafoe was elected a Charter Member of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1965, and in 1968 he received the U of T athletics "Gold T".
