As an intercollegiate athlete, Carol Anne Wood played four years of varsity volleyball and was captain in 1962-63. She also competed in intramural badminton, basketball and volleyball, and served on the women's athletic directorate. While a faculty member in the UofT School of physical and health education (1963-70), she coached intercollegiate archery (8 years; 7 indoor titles and 6 outdoor titles) and volleyball (1 year), and also introduced competitive gymnastics to the varsity women's program. From 1970-77, she taught at York University.

Carol Anne Letheren has officiated Gymnastics at 15 international games and has also been a national official in Synchronized Swimming and Volleyball. She has devoted more than 30 years to volunteer and staff positions on provincial and national sport governing bodies in Gymnastics and volleyball. At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, she was Canada's first female Chef de Mission. In 1990, Letheren was named President of the Canadian Olympic Association and a member of the International Olympic Committee for Canada.
