Beth Hollihan won an outstanding 19 provincial titles and nine national medals over her four-year career with the Varsity Blues swimming program.
As a rookie in 1992-93, Hollihan won five gold medals at the OWIAA championships and earned the 200m butterfly national title in CIAU record time. She also reached the national podium in both the 100m butterfly and 400m individual medley, leading the Blues to the CIAU women’s swimming team title. Her first-place finish in the 200m butterfly also qualified her to represent Canada at the 1993 FISU Games, where she placed just off the podium in fourth place.
In her second year of competition, the OWIAA all-star and CIAU all-Canadian again earned five provincial titles, including a clean sweep of the butterfly races. She reached the podium three times at the national meet, claiming an individual silver medal in the 200m fly.
Hollihan repeated that performance in 1995, with another five provincial gold medals and a CIAU silver medal in the 200m fly. She capped off her career with four OWIAA titles, an OWIAA swimming award of distinction and U of T’s distinguished Silver T award in 1996.
Prior to joining the Blues, Hollihan placed fourth in the 200m butterfly at the 1991 Pan American Games, and seventh at the 1993 Pan Pacific Games. She went on to finish among the top 15 swimmers at the 1994 world short course championships.
