Helen Murphy was in large part responsible for establishing the reputation that the Varsity Blues women’s ice hockey program has today.

The league’s leading scorer in 1979-80, Helen accumulated 27 points over 12 games. That season, she guided her team to their first OWIAA title in 14 years.

The next season, Helen repeated her outstanding performance as the league’s top scorer and helped U of T to their second consecutive provincial title.

In her final year at U of T, Helen was voted the team’s most valuable player and was named a league all-star on her way to leading the Blues to a third consecutive OWIAA title.

Helen went on to win the Ontario women’s ice hockey championships with the Agincourt Canadians. She then moved out West and joined the Saskatchewan Stars, winning a bronze medal at the 1983 Canadian championships and a gold medal at the Western Canadian championships in 1985.
