John Wright was a membr of Varsity Blues teams in golf (1971) and Ice hockey (1968-72), and was also one of Canada's most accomplished sailors. He was captain of the hockey Blues in 1970-71 and during his four seasons was a key member of four OUAA championship teams and in regular season league play he scored 65 goals and 78 assists for 143 points. He was also a member of four CIAU national champhionship teams and was named the outstanding player at the 1969, 1970 and 1972 CIAU championship tournament. He scored three goals in Blues celebrated 5-1 victory over the USSR National B Team in February 1972 and earned silver medal at the 1972 World University Games in Lake Placid. Wright served on the U of T Men's Athletic Directorate in 1971-72 and received the George M. Biggs Trophy in 1972 in recognition of his leadeship, sportsmanship and performance. Following graduation, he played in the National Hockey League with Vancouver (1972-74), St.Louis (1974-75) and Kansas City (1975-76).
