Joan Stevenson

Joan Stevenson was an outstanding Varsity athlete in two sports: basketball (four years, one league championship) and field hockey (fouryears, three senior championships). She was captain of both championship teams in 1968-69. In U of T intramural competition, she was a member of championship teams in basketball, field hockey, ice hockey and volleyball. She also played on the Ontario Provincial Field Hockey team. Joan was also active in athletics administration: member of the WAA Directorate, a student representative to the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Union for two years and President of the PHE Women's Athletic Association. She received U of T's Benson Honour Award in 1969 for outstanding achievement in athletics and scholarship. Following graduation, Joan coached field hockey and basketball at York, Windsor and Lakehead Universities. She continued with and academic career and is now a Professor of Biomechanics at at Queen's University.
