Alexnder Dalton "Dalt" White

During his career, "Dalt" White made a significant contribution to the Varsity athletics porgram as an athlete, coach and administrator. As an Intramural athlete, he played three years of basketball, winning one championship and four years of lacrosse, including being a member of the Varsity "representative team" which toured in the United Sates. He had an outstanding high school coaching career in Port Colborne and Toronto's Western Tech (where he won the first Ontario Golden Ball basketball title), and was assistant director of physical education for Ontario from 1947-51. White was named assistant football coach in 1951 and served as head coach from 1956-1965 (10 seasons). He compiled a record of 39 wins, 37 losses and 2 ties, and his teams won the league championship in 1958 and 1965 plus the inaugural Vanier Cup national title in 1965.

White joined the staff of the U of T Men's Athletic Association and School of Physical and Health Education in 1951, was appointed Assistant Professor in SPHE in 1955 and later became an Associate Professor. He was Director of Men's Athletics from 1970-77 and then Men's Intercollegiate Co-ordinator from 1977-79. He was awarded a UTAA "Gold T" in 1965 and received the U of T's prestigious Loudon Award in 1976 for his contribution to athletics and recreation. White has been recognized by the OUAA as the recipient of the Loosemore Award (1978) and McManus Award (1989).
