An outstanding athlete and educator, Alexander Edgar “Ted” Toogood was an important part of the University of Toronto intercollegiate and intramural athletic programs. A popular member of the Varsity Blues Men’s Football team from 1945-48, Ted helped lead the team to the CIAU Championship in his final season. Ted’s athletic abilities extended beyond the gridiron to include indoor track events, basketball and lacrosse. He was a member of the track team for two years and competed in the 440-m, setting a novice record of 55.05, and he played on two PHE championship basketball and lacrosse teams. Ted was awarded his Bronze T in 1947-48. He played professional football for the Toronto Argonauts from 1950-55. In 1960 he joined the staff at Burnamthorpe Collegiate Institute and later Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, as a physical education and health teacher, and coach. Ted is retired from teaching.
