An outstanding Intercollegiate athlete in two sports, Viiu Kanep competed for 4 years in Archery and was the Blues Volleyball captain for 3 years. She participated in 6 intramural sports (Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Softball, Swimming, Volleyball) and served on the Women's Athletic Directorate. In 1962 she was the initial winner of the Benson Honour Award, presented to the graduating student selected for Outstanding Ability in Athletics and Scholarship. She served as President of the Women's T-Holders' Association from 1986-89.

In national Volleyball competition, Viiu was a member of 6 Canadian club champions and was named Best setter at the 1963 National Championships. She has been a national referee in Basketball and Volleyball, and currently teaches in the Peel secondary school system.
