Rev. Bruce Macdonald

Reverend Bruce Macdonald was a member of the 1894 ORFU and 1895 CRU champion rugby teams. He served as president of the Rugby Club from 1895-96, was a member the U of T Athletic Association directorate and then participated on the UTAA advisory board from 1900-62. He helped organize several sports clubs at U of T, including the lawn tennis club (1894), boat club (1897) and rowing club (1920).

Rev. Macdonald was a member of the Ontario Royal Commission on the University of Toronto in 1905-6 and spearheaded its important recommendations concerning the physical welfare of students. He went on to become the inaugural vice-president of the Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union in 1906 and was one of three members of the initial Canadian Olympic Committee. He was an active member of the Amateur Athletic Union of Canada (AAU), serving as president from 1920-24.

Rev. Macdonald was a member of the U of T Board of Governors from 1906-45, serving as chairman from 1933-45. He was Headmaster of St. Andrew’s College in Aurora from 1900-1935.
