Program Overview

Cheerleading at U of T is a program that competes at various competitions across southern Ontario, performs at Varsity Blues football and basketball games, and makes various public appearances both on and off campus. Students must attend a tryout session at the beginning of each season to be considered for program participation.

Team sizes vary by year, but typically range from 20-40 athletes. Athletes are selected based on athleticism, showmanship and tumbling displayed at tryouts. Experience in competitive gymnastics or cheerleading at the high school, collegiate or all-star level is not required but is an asset. Required stunting and tumbling levels may vary year to year, however, a competitive attitude and a strong work ethic is more important.

The program is open to all full-time U of T students from St. George, UTM and UTSC campuses. Upcoming tryout information is available on the University of Toronto cheerleading Facebook and Instagram pages.

Practices are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-11 p.m. during the academic year. Additional Friday evening practices may be added. Athletes are also expected to be available for Varsity Blues football and basketball home games outside of practice times.

All selected students must register to participate. Basic fees per semester covers certified cheer and gymnastic instruction, competition expenses and travel. Additional fees will vary per individual for uniforms and team apparel.
