For over forty years, The University of Toronto has had a reputation for building strong women’s volleyball teams. This reputation was particularly well-earned throughout the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. During those years, one team created an especially remarkable legacy: the Blues squad of 1968-69.
Undefeated in exhibition play, the 1968-69 Blues continued their winning streak right into the provincial playoffs to earn the league championship and the coveted Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Union (WIAU) title.

The team was a dynamic group of outstanding talent, including Lois Kennedy who was also a member of Canada’s national team. Six of the Blues players also competed on the provincial team that won gold at the first Canada Games in 1967. The 1968-69 season also launched Julie Andruchiw’s incredible career at U of T. Julie went on to coach women’s volleyball for 13 seasons and was inducted into the U of T Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Marj Shedd coached the team through this spectacular season and is being inducted into the 2007 U of T Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder.
