A team captain in his final two years, quarterback Eugene Buccigrossi is among the top all-time passers in Varsity Blues football history. A three-time OUAA all-star, he was a member of two OUAA silver medal teams (1990, 1992) and had a banner year in his final season at U of T.
In 1992, Eugene completed 56% of his passes for 1278 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named the OUAA player of the week after scoring three touchdowns and gaining 126 yards in a 37-0 win over the Windsor Lancers.
For his efforts that season, Eugene earned OUAA most valuable player recognition, was named a CIAU all-Canadian and became the fourth Varsity Blue to win the Hec Crighton Trophy as the CIAU’s outstanding football player.
Eugene is a two-time recipient of Varsity Blues football Johnny Copp award as the team MVP and was voted the T-Holders male athlete of the year in 1993.
Eugene’s name is still prominent in the Varsity Blues football record book. He is a member of the Varsity Blues all-century team and is ranked in the top six for career passing yards (3931), attempts (501), completions (260) and touchdowns (30).
