Nick Volpe has a long and storied history with Varsity Blues football. He played three seasons with the team that won the Yates Cup in 1948. Following that, Nick played four seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, winning the Grey Cup in 1950 and 1952.  During the 1950 final, also known as the Mud Bowl, Nick kicked two field goals and was named the game’s most valuable player.

After retiring as a player, Nick became an assistant coach with the Argonauts in 1953. His career evolved to include several roles: director of player personnel, scouting and football operations (1988-96); director of Canadian scouting (1996-2000); vice-president and member of the board of directors (2007-12); and  football operations consultant (2010-12).

Throughout these years, Nick maintained a connection to Varsity Blues football. He was a volunteer recruiter for the Blues starting in the early 1950s and went on to create the Argo Cup, presented to the winner of the York and University of Toronto regular season football game.

Nick is one of the founding members of Friends of Football and was named a member of the Varsity Blues All-Century Legend Team in 2001.  Most recently, he became a member of the Blues football historical committee and has also served on several coaching search committees for the Varsity Blues.
