U OF T STRUGGLE TO FIND RHYTHM ON HOME COURT

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 104-43 versus the visiting Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Nov. 7) night inside the Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

A tough matchup for the young Blues squad, U of T struggled to find any rhythm on either side of the floor. The 43-point outing proved to be the lowest offensive output of the season so far for Toronto, while the contest also marked the largest margin of defeat (61). A major discrepancy for the Blues came down low as the Lancers outscored Toronto 54-8 in the paint. Meanwhile, Windsor also frustrated the Blues defensively forcing the home side into 30 turnovers through the four quarters.

First-year guards Alexis Imutan and Victoria Ford paced the Blues offensively. Imutan converted three three-point field goals and one free throw into a team-high 10 points, while Ford registered eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. The trio of Natashia Recuenco, Cady Su, and Chidimma Chuwunyerenwa each added six points.

With all 12 Windsor players recording a point in the win, it was veteran guard Leah Tate leading the way with a game-high 20 points. Big 6-foot-5 centre Kali Grootenboer added another 15 points in just 16 minutes, while 6-foot-3 forward Helena Lasic and sophomore point guard Abby Cullon each added 13 off the bench.

Toronto will look to rebound next weekend as they continue a six-game homestand next welcoming the Western Mustangs to Goldring Centre. Tip-off on Friday (Nov. 13) night is scheduled for 6 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. U of T students receive free entry with a valid T-Card. All OUA basketball games are also streamed live and on demand via oua.tv.
