The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the commitment of Melanie Dunbar to the women's basketball team for the 2026-27 season.

A 5-foot-10 guard from Scarborough, Dunbar joins the Blues via Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute and Scarborough Blues.

“I chose the University of Toronto because I wanted to attend a school that challenges me to be excellent, not just good, in both athletics and academics," said Dunbar. "I was drawn to the vibrant environment of the women's basketball team and coaching staff. This is exactly where I want to be!"

Dunbar brings versatility to the Blues lineup showcasing a style of play that has earned her Birchmount Park girl's basketball MVP on three separate occasions. An all-around athlete, she has additionally earned MVP honours with the indoor soccer team at Birchmount. With the Scarborough Blues, she garnered player of the game recognition on multiple occasions.

Dunbar heads to the University of Toronto this fall as an honour roll student throughout her high school career, also earning JUEL honour roll status. She is set to enter the Life Sciences program.

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
