University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey players Danielle D'Silva and Jada Mendonca represented Canada as members of the U21 Canadian women's national team competing at the 2026 Junior Pan American Championships in Santiago, Chile over the last two weeks.
The Canadian women finished the international showcase with a record of 2-3-1 (W-L-T), placing fifth overall following a decisive 4-0 victory over Mexico in the consolation final.
A kinesiology major from Mississauga, D'Silva appeared in 10 total matches as a Varsity Blue during her debut season at U of T this past fall. A strong midfielder, she has previously competed as a member of Team Canada's U16 squad from 2018-2022 and the U18 team from 2023-2025.Â
A second-year commerce student from Brampton, Mendonca has now appeared in 16 total games as a Varsity Blue across two seasons at U of T. Playing defence, she has previously appeared at three Field Hockey Canada national championships as a member of Team Ontario.
In addition to the student-athletes competing at the international showcase, U of T also saw Varsity Blues alumna and current assistant coach Alison Lee serve as an assistant with the U21 Canadian men's national team, while Varsity Blues goalie coach Dave Cox supported both the men and women as a video analyst. The Canadian men would finish with a silver medal. After a 5-1 record during round robin matches, Canada delivered a stunning shootout upset over the USA in the semifinal round before dropping the gold medal match to Argentina.
