The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team earned the OUA silver medal after a 3-1 loss to the York Lions in the gold-medal game on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 26) in Waterloo, Ont.
After a hard-fought shootout win over Waterloo to advance to the final, U of T hit the field against a familiar foe. In the second minute, York got out to an early lead after a goal from Jewel Lew. As the two teams continued to exchange chances, the Lions extended their lead to 2-0 going into halftime as Avery Davis found the back of the net.
Applying lots of pressure in the offensive zone, the Blues put their foot on the gas pedal as the clock moved closer to 60 minutes. After the Blues forced a turnover in the offensive zone, OUA all-star Maggie Mullens set up third-year forward Jayden Novak for the Blues first goal of the game in the 52
nd minute to cut the lead in half. As the Blue and White pushed for an equalizer York was able to catch a break and Katheryn Carlow restored the two-goal lead. The Blues pushed for offence and played hard until the end but York claimed victory in the gold medal game against their crosstown rivals.
The Blues conclude the 2025 season with a second-place finish and will turn their focus to the offseason where a young Blues core will continue to develop.
