BLUES DOMINATE WARRIORS TO WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 9-1 and 10-4 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 29) at Dan Lang Field.
 
The Blues wrap up their regular season with a 10-4 record heading into next weekend's OUA regional qualifying tournament.

Josh Neposlan stepped on the mound first for U of T Varsity Blues. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking none. Oscar Kraemer, Diego Fuentes, and Ethan Kwong each threw scoreless innings for U of T Varsity Blues in relief.
 
U of T collected nine hits in the game. Owen Taylor provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Blues with two RBI. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Spencer Ross went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Blues in hits. Sam Aslanowicz collected two hits for U of T in four at bats.
 
Toronto 10, Waterloo 4
 
U of T flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 5-2.
 
Connor Broughton earned the win for the Varsity Blues. The starter allowed two hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Matthew Baici, Matthew Kanhai, Patrick Staszyzyn, and Kenny Leung each came on in relief for U of T and shutdown Waterloo.
 
U of T piled up 13 hits in the game. Ben Mossburg drove the middle of the lineup, leading Toronto with three RBI. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Owen Taylor, Ricky Reyes, Jalen Worthen, Richard Kosztowniak, and Mossburg each collected two hits.
 
Toronto opens the regional qualifying tournament against the York Lions on Friday night (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m., at Morris Kerbel Park, before taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs (12 p.m.) and TMU Bold (3 p.m.) on Saturday (Oct. 5) at Teramoto Park. The winner of the regional qualifying tournament will advance to the OUA baseball championship, October 11-12, hosted by U of T in Ajax, Ont.
