BLUES BASEBALL CROWNED NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Carleton Ravens 4-2 on Sunday (Oct. 19) morning to claim the 2025 Canadian National University Championship.

In a rematch of the OUA gold medal game just a week ago, the Blues secured their second banner in as many weeks, while also closing out their 2025 campaign on a 15-game winning streak.

"This is such a special group and I couldn't be prouder of them," said Varsity Blues head coach Andrew Needles. "We displayed such poise and delivered in key moments. Such exciting baseball down the stretch and what a way to cap off the season!"

Fourth-year pitcher Ethan Kwong was named Pitcher of the Tournament, while second-year outfielder Diego Fuentes was named Tournament MVP.

In the Sunday showdown versus the Ravens, it was Carleton who struck first jumping out to a 1-0 in the first inning. They would hold that advantage until the bottom of the fourth when the Blues bats would come to life and allow U of T to score in each of the next three innings.

Leading that offensive charge was Finals Player of the Game Ryan Hsu. Nailing a double in the bottom of the sixth, Hsu's two RBI would take the game from a 2-2 tie to a 4-2 victory for Toronto. The prior two RBI were knocked in by fourth-year veteran Sam Aslanowicz and second-year standout Marcus Santos.

Competing in their fourth game in as many days, the Blues turned to fifth-year pitcher Patrick Stasyzyn for the start in the gold medal game. Stasyszyn settled right in after the one run first for the Ravens, limiting a strong Carleton offence to just two runs total in his six innings worked. Tyson Espiritu Santo appeared in relief and secured the save with two strikeouts and a fielder's choice in the seventh inning.

Bringing home a national banner from Montreal to place alongside their OUA provincial banner, the Blues end the fall with an impressive 34-6 overall record.
