BLUES GO 1-1 WITH LIONS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to the York Lions, before bouncing back with a 7-6 victory on Sunday, September 22 at Dan Lang Field.

Carter Hercun collected three hits in four at bats in the loss. Hercun doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the third inning for the Blues.
 
York was the first to get on the board in the first when Colin Shier singled, scoring one run. Hercun singled, which helped U of T Varsity Blues tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
 
U of T took the lead in the bottom of the third when Ryan Hsu singled, scoring one run, to give U of T Varsity Blues the upper hand, 2-1.
 
York flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-2.
 
Josh Neposlan started on the bump for the Varsity Blues. The starter surrendered three hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking two.
 
U of T Varsity Blues tallied 11 hits in the game. Hsu collected two hits for the Blues in three at bats. U of T Varsity Blues stole three bases in the game.

The game was tied at six in the bottom of the sixth when U of T's Aaron Kreithen drew a walk, scoring one run.
 
U of T Varsity Blues captured the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the second after Kreithen doubled, Ricky Reyes singled, Owen Taylor grounded out, and Kevin Angers singled, each scoring one run.
 
The Lions gained a 6-5 advantage in the top of the sixth after Daniel Carlino singled, Aidan Darien singled, and Ryan Freeman walked, each scoring one run.
 
The Blues regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Ryan Hsu singled, and Kreithen walked, each scoring one run.
 
Matthew Baici earned the win for U of T Varsity Blues. The pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one and walking two. Easton Kirkpatrick started on the hill for U of T Varsity Blues. The pitcher allowed six hits and six runs (three earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four. Oscar Kraemer and Tyson Espiritu Santo each appeared in relief for U of T Varsity Blues.
 
U of T Varsity Blues piled up 14 hits in the game. Sam Aslanowicz, Reyes, Angers, Carter Hercun, and Kreithen each collected two hits for U of T Varsity Blues. Taylor, Hsu, Reyes, Angers, Hercun, and Kreithen each drove in one run for U of T Varsity Blues. Aslanowicz and Angers each stole multiple bases for U of T. The Blues stole eight bases in the game. U of T Varsity Blues turned one double play in the game.
 
The Blues are back in action next Saturday, September 28 when they host the TMU Bold at Dan Lang Field.
