Traveling to the nation's capital to begin the new campaign, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team earned doubleheader wins over both the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees to open the OUA regular season with a 4-0 record.

Beginning on Saturday (Sept. 5) versus Carleton, U of T won a high-scoring effort 14-9 before taking Game 2 by a final score of 6-4.

Third-year infielder Marcus Santos was sensational in the opening bout notching six RBI and three runs on a 3-for-5 outing at the plate. This included a three-run home run in the fifth-inning. Six total Blues batters recorded an RBI in the victory, while veteran pitcher Josh Neposlan earned the win from the pitcher's mound.

In Game 2, first-year infielder Elias Rubio-Reyes recorded his second home run of the day to help Toronto edge out Carleton in a much closer contest. Second-year pitcher Armin Najmaie came in to secure the win.

Shifting to Sunday (Sept. 6), U of T claimed two dominant victories knocking off the Gee-Gees 6-1 and 8-2.

First-year pitcher Ricky Klimaszewski was outstanding on the mound for Game 1 conceding just two hits and one run across seven total innings. The Commerce major would register five strikeouts across the 28 total batters faced. At the plate, third-year designated hitter Diego Fuentes paced the Blues offence with a 3-for-4 two RBI performance.

In Game 2, the pitching combination of Ravin Ruvarajan, Taisei Hihara, and Aidan Vivaldi allowed just three hits in total to the Gee-Gees. First-year pitcher Ruvarajan would earn the win. OUA veterans Spenser Ross and Peter Zidros would notch multi-hit efforts, accounting for five of the eight total RBI in the game for Toronto. Meanwhile, Rubio-Reyes would also hit home runs in both games versus Ottawa to make it four straight contests with a ball sent over the outfield wall. The standout rookie finished the weekend going 6-for-12 with five RBI and six runs scored.

The schedule now shifts back to Dan Lang Field where U of T will challenge the Brock Badgers in an exhibition doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 12 before continuing their regular season schedule with back-to-back contests versus the TMU Bold on Sunday, Sept. 13.
