The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team earned the clean sweep at their annual Labour Day Classic, claiming four wins across two-days of competition at Dan Lang Field.

Toronto opened the weekend with a dominant 8-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday morning. The Blues scored in every one of the six-innings played, led by another two-hit effort from Diego Fuentes. The 2025 OUA Most Valuable Hitter and CUNC Tournament MVP went 2-for-3, adding a walk, one RBI, and one run. Jonathan Onderisin earned the complete game shutout for U of T registering nine strikeouts while conceding just three hits across his six total innings of work.

In a closer second contest that day, U of T claimed a 4-2 win versus the Laurentian Voyageurs. Continuing his strong preseason so far, Aidan Vivaldi was the lone Blue to record multiple hits finishing the victory going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Fellow first-year Elias Rubio Reyes was also impressive on the base-path utilizing a walk and a hit to cross the plate twice for Toronto. Rookie Richard Klimaszews registered five strikeouts through five innings while conceding just one earned run on three hits. Kojiro Hirata appeared in relief to secure the second win of the day.

Shifting to Sunday, the Blues faced off against the Queen's Gaels twice, picking up an 8-6 win in the early morning. An exciting back-and-forth contest, Toronto was buoyed by a seven-run first inning. Woochan Nam led the way with a bases-clearing three RBI double. Three pitchers in total were used by the Blues with veterans Ryan Hsu and Max Hernandez combining with newcomer Ravin Yuvarajan for the win.

The Varsity Blues closed out the weekend with a 4-3 win over the Gaels. Trailing 2-0 through the first five-innings, U of T delivered a four-run sixth to jump ahead. Second-year infielder Jack Barber delivered the go-ahead hit on a three-run single. Armin Najmaie picked up the win on the mound.

Finishing the preseason with a 4-1 record, the Varsity Blues will now open their regular season this coming weekend on the road. Toronto will first challenge the Carleton Ravens in a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 5 before taking on the Ottawa Gee-Gees in back-to-back contests the following day.
