The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team knocked off the Centennial Colts 10-4 and 7-6 in back-to-back exhibition contests on Friday (Aug. 30) at Dan Laing Field.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Toronto registered 10 hits showing plenty of pop throughout the six-inning contest. Kirk Gibson led the way for the Blues offence finishing the game going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, including a sensational two run homerun to open the scoring. Five other Blues registered an RBI in the decisive 10-4 victory.Â
In the follow up, U of T were tested as they had to come-from-behind on their home diamond. Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth, it was Ben Mossberg who delivered a walk-off RBI single to claim the win for the Blues. Mossberg finished the contest 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Aaron Kreithen also recorded two RBI for U of T.
U of T continue their preseason schedule next hosting their annual Labour Day Classic. Toronto will challenge Guelph on Saturday (Aug. 31) morning, before taking on Queen's later that afternoon. They will conclude the weekend with a match versus Laurier on Sunday (Sept. 1). All games in the preseason tournament will be taking place at Dan Laing Field on the University of Toronto - Scarborough campus.
