BASEBALL DOWNS LIONS TO ADVANCE TO OUA FINAL FOUR

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the York Lions 3-2 on Sunday, October 6 to win the OUA Central qualifier and punch their ticket to the OUA Final Four.  
 
Th Blues play host to the OUA Final Four, which will feature the Brock Badgers, Waterloo Warriors and Queen's Gaels, October 11-12, at Ajax Sportsplex.
 
Both teams were strong on the mound on Sunday. Josh Neposlan started the game for U of T and recorded 19 outs. Neposlan earned the win for U of T Varsity Blues. The starter gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Ethan Kwong collected the save. Paul Kosztowniak tossed one and two-thirds innings of zero-run ball for U of T in relief. The left-handed pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out three and walking none.
 
Ryan Hsu, Matt Fischer, and Kirk Gibson at the bottom of U of T Varsity Blues's lineup combined for five of the team's eight hits in their victory. They scored two runs and drove in one.
 
The Blues got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Jakob Cellupica homered to left field, Gibson singled, and Owen Taylor walked, each scoring one run.
 
Ryan Freeman hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the sixth for the Lions.
 
Hsu and Gibson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Blues while hitting back-to-back. Taylor, Cellupica, and Gibson each drove in one run for Toronto.
