BLUES ADVANCE TO REGIONAL QUALIFIER FINAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 9-0 and TMU Bold 5-4 on Saturday, October 5 in Brampton, Ont.
 
With the wins, the Blues wrap up round robin action with a 3-0 record and will battle the York Lions in the final tomorrow morning (Oct. 6) at 10:30 a.m. The winner will advance to next week's OUA Final Four, hosted by U of T, at Ajax Sportsplex.
 
Toronto 9, Laurentian 0
 
Fourth-year pitcher Connor Broughton earned the win for the Blues. Broughton pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking five. Patrick Staszyzyn pitched two innings of zero-run ball for U of T, giving up zero hits, striking out three and walking one.
 
Owen Taylor once again led the Blues offensively, registering four hits, two RBI and scoring three times the win. Jakob Cellupica added two hits and two RBI, while Sam Aslanowicz and Spencer Ross each had two hits as well.  
 
Toronto 5, TMU 4
 
U of T snatched the lead late in their 5-4 victory over TMU. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run.
 
Kento Moriyoshi earned the win for the Blues. The hurler allowed one hit and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking two. Easton Kirkpatrick started on the hill for U of T. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Oscar Kraemer collected the save. Tyson Espiritu Santo threw two and one-third innings of no-run ball for the Blues in relief. The reliever gave up two hits, striking out two and walking one.
 
Owen Taylor and Spencer Ross were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Toronto. The Blues stole three bases and turned three double plays in the game.
