The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team earned two victories over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon at Dan Laing Field, knocking off the visitors 16-12 and 10-4 in the doubleheader.
The Blues offence was firing on all cylinders, driving home an impressive 26 runs between the two contests. The consistent play at the plate saw U of T score at least one run across nine innings between the two games played, highlighted by a blistering eight runs scored in the first inning of Game 1.
Third-year outfielder Lemuel Beach was sensational for the Blues all day, tallying three walks and an RBI single, while crossing the plate for three runs himself in the high-scoring opener. He then followed that up with a 2-for-3 outing in Game 2, recording a double and solo home run, along with another three runs scored.
Along with Beach's solid performance, the Blues also saw Sam Aslanowicz, Owen Taylor, and Matt Myhal register two RBI apiece in Game 1, while first-year outfielder Tyler Wingfield notched a team-high three RBI in Game 2.
Originally scheduled to challenge the York Lions tomorrow (Sept. 17), the Blues Sunday doubleheader has been postponed to a later date. Now U of T will next host the Guelph Gryphons at Stan Wadlow Park on Wednesday, Sept. 20 for a mid-season exhibition before returning to Dan Laing Field on Saturday Sept. 23 for a regular season battle of Toronto versus TMU.
