BLUES BLANK LIONS IN OUA REGIONALS OPENER

Following a rain delay to the start of the OUA Baseball Regional Qualifiers, the Varsity Blues baseball team delivered in a Friday (Oct. 6) night showdown versus the host York Lions claiming a 9-0 shutout victory.

After the early morning rain delay, the Blues found themselves only competing in one contest on the opening day of the crucial championship qualifying weekend. In their matchup with the Lions, Toronto left no doubt as they outhit their opponents 12-3 and utilized a five-run fifth inning to secure the win.

Veteran catcher Kristyan Puyol-Gennosar impressed under the lights going 2-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run double. Both Lemuel Beach and Sam Aslanowicz also recorded two RBI in the victory, while first-year outfielder Tyler Wingfield registered a game-high three hits for the Blues.

On the mound, Toronto starting pitcher Kento Moriyoshi earned the complete game shutout going the full seven innings with just three hits and two walks allowed, while striking out eight Lions.

U of T will look to carry the momentum from the Friday night win into their matchup with the TMU Bold tomorrow (Oct. 7) afternoon after the contest was rescheduled from the rain delay earlier in the morning. First-pitch between the Blues and Bold is scheduled for 3 p.m.
