ENTIRE TEAM EFFORT LEADS BLUES TO OPENING WIN AT OUA REGIONALS

Box Score The Toronto Varsity Blues got their 2022 OUA regional qualifier off on the right foot Friday afternoon in Brampton, Ont., against the York Lions.

Scoring early and often, the defending OUA champions blanked their cross-town rivals winning 15-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Taking control of the game from the very beginning, the Blues hammered a pair of first inning three-run home runs, one from Jakob Cellupica and one from Sam Aslanowicz to go up 6-0.

In the second inning, a two straight two-out rbi singles form Kristyan Puyols-Gennosar and Will Brooks extended the lead to 8-0. Then in the third it was a two-out rbi single from Lem Beach that cashed in a ninth run for Toronto.

Making sure York had zero thoughts of a comeback, the Blues added on six more runs in the fourth inning to finish off their 15-0 victory.

Aslanowicz, Cellupica and Puyols-Gennosar all led the Blues on offence with two hits each.

Paul Kosztowniak got the start on the mound for the Blues going four innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out two.

UP NEXT: The Blues will resume their regional qualifier on October 8 when they battle the Laurentian Voyageurs at 10:00 a.m.
