The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team will look to win their fourth consecutive provincial banner when they head to the 2026 OUA Championship this weekend (Oct. 9-11), hosted by Brock University.
The Blues qualified for the provincial championship as the No. 1 seed in the East division, finishing the regular season with a 9-3 record. The top position handed Toronto a first-round bye in the new double-elimination format tournament. Joining the Blues in the championship will be OUA West No. 1 seed and host Brock Badgers, along with Laurier Golden Hawks, Carleton Ravens, Queen's Gaels, and Waterloo Warriors.
This season, Toronto have scored the third most runs among OUA teams with 87 scored across the 12-game OUA season. The offence has been especially effective on the road where the Blues hold a 5-1 record, providing plenty of excitement for U of T on their trip to The Falls for the championship.
An OUA all-star and OUA Most Valuable Hitter a season ago, Diego Fuentes has picked up right where he left off leading the Blues in batting average (.433) and doubles (6) across OUA contests this fall. Adding another power-bat to the lineup, Elias Rubio-Reyes has also been a sensation for U of T in his debut campaign. The first-year infielder topped the Blues in hits (16) and extra-base hits (8), including four home runs. Meanwhile, third-year veteran Marcus Santos led the team in RBI (14) and first-year outfielder Aidan Vivaldi has owned the base path with a team-high eight stolen bases.
On the mound, first-year pitcher Ricky Klimaszewski and second-year standout Jonathan Onderisin have carried the load throughout the regular season schedule. Klimaszewski recorded a team-high 20 innings pitched, conceding just 13 hits and seven earned runs. Onderisin was right behind with 19.2 innings worked, finishing with a team-high 21 strikeouts. The trio of Armin Najmaie, Koji Kirata, and Taisei Hihara have consistently appeared in relief.
Toronto have won four of the last five OUA Championships, while medaling at seven of the last eight. They will open their weekend with a quarter-final contest on Friday (Oct. 9) afternoon, facing off against the winner of the first-round matchup between Laurier and Carleton earlier that morning.
