Box Score The Toronto Varsity Blues are just one win away from successfully defending their OUA crown.
Defeating the Waterloo Warriors 7-2 Friday morning at Jack Couch Park in Kitchener, Ont., the Blues punched their ticket to the OUA championship game for a second straight season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After Waterloo opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first, the Blues wasted no time getting themselves on the scoreboard. In their first time up to bat, Toronto put a crooked number on the board when designated hitter, Kristyan Puyol-Genossar launched a three-run homerun.
Adding to their lead in the bottom of the third, the Blues went up 5-1 thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jakob Cellupica and a two-out rbi single from Will Brooks.
Getting in on the homerun action, Sam Aslanowicz hit a solo shot in the fourth, before Lem Beach hit a round-tripper himself in the seventh, as the Blues held a 7-2 advantage heading into the eighth.
From there, the Blues pitching would carry the baton the rest of the way.
Kevin Angers got the start on the mound for Toronto picking up the win, as he went eight innings allowing just one earned run, while striking out five. Ethan Kwong came into the game in the ninth to seal the victory.
UP NEXT: The Blues will prepare to take on the winner of the other OUA semifinal featuring the Guelph Gryphons and the Queen's Gaels in tomorrow's championship final. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
