University of Toronto Varsity Blues alumna Jean Major (Gourlay) was named a member of the 2020 Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame induction class as announced last week.

A member of the field hockey Blues for five seasons from 1976-81, Major was integral to four OWIAA league championships and two CIAU national championships in 1977 and 1979. She was a league all-star in four seasons and was co-winner of the inaugural T-Holders' award as U of T's female athlete of the year in 1980.

She was a member of Canada's national field hockey team from 1977-84 and was a team co-captain from 1982-84. She represented Canada in three World Cups, helping the team to a silver-medal finish in 1983, and the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She was also named to the World 11 all-star team at the World Cup in Malaysia in 1983.

Major was inducted into the U of T Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
