The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team split a three game exhibition series with McGill in Montreal this past week (Aug. 19-20), winning 12-4, losing 5-3, and tying 5-5.
In their first game of the series the Blues were spurred to victory by a seven run seventh inning. Veteran Graham Tebbit was impressive at the plate going 3-for-3 with four RBI, while fifth-year outfielder Bradley Bedford went 2-for-4 with two RBI. The trio of Drew Valade, Chris Johanesson, and Peter Nash contributed from the pitchers mound in the impressive victory.
In the second game the action was limited to just four innings with McGill's three run first proving to be the difference. Toronto's lone RBI was cashed in by Michael Deluca who was 1-for-2 in the shortened game. Alex Tabascio and David Pham both pitched in the contest.
The final matchup saw the Varsity Blues take advantage of McGills off target pitching with the Redmen surrendering a walk to all but three U of T batters in the contest. With men on base, Vijay Ramnarace, Sebastian Lech, and Han Douris all picked up RBI in the 5-5 contest. Pitching for the Blues were Dean Christidis and Mateos Karakos.
Exhibition action continues for U of T this weekend (aug. 25, 27) when they challenge a host of opponents from Dan Lang Field at UTSC. First pitch is set for 9 a.m. against the Toronto Mets Elite.
