TORONTO TOPPLES RYERSON IN SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team picked up a convincing sweep of the visiting Ryerson Rams on Saturday afternoon (Sept 30), winning both matches of the doubleheader, 9-3 and 11-2.

Behind another strong pitching outing from Graham Tebbit, who delivered six scoreless innings while striking out eight, the Varsity Blues started their offensive showcase for the day early, picking up eight runs in the first four innings. Right-fielder Sebastian Lech and first baseman Mateos Kekatos each brought in a team-high three RBI. Jack Zhan and Christopher Johannesson appeared in relief for Tebbit.

The bats continued to shine in Game 2 for the Varsity Blues as the team's 11 hits allowed six different players to record a RBI, led by second baseman Mark Douris who drove in four runs going 2-for-3 at the plate. Facing 24 batters in five innings of work, starting pitcher Dean Christidis allowed just five hits and one earned run while striking out two. Andrew Greig and Matthew Chow each delivered a scoreless innings in relief.

The Blue and White are right back at it tomorrow as they travel to take on the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Ont. First pitch of the Sunday afternoon doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
