BLUES HAND RAMS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team upset the No. 2 nationally ranked Ryerson Rams 2-1 on Wednesday, October 12 at Downsview Park.

With the win, the Blues improve to 10-2-2 and move into second place in the competitive OUA East division. With only three regular season games remaining, Toronto also clinches at least a top four position, securing home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

Fourth-year striker Antonio Ajhert got the Blues off to a great start, opening the scoring in the third minute of the match with his sixth goal of the season.

Second-year midfielder Harry Michelis put Toronto up by two in the 37th minute with a goal assisted by co-captain Lukas MacNaughton. The goal marked Michelis' fifth of the season and second in as many games.

The Rams got on the board just two minutes later as Adam Hemati converted on a penalty kick and Toronto held a 2-1 lead at the half.

Ryerson outshot U of T 5-3 in the second half, but none of their chances were able to hit net and the Blues held on for the one-goal victory.

Blues goalkeeper Mark Rogal earned the win in net.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, October 16 when they travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m.
