The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team picked up another point in the standings with a 1-1 draw against the Carleton Ravens in the nation's capital.
Throughout the first half, Toronto and Carleton had a feeling out process, battling for positioning and looking to gain an edge. In the 33
rd minute, third-year forward Niklas Hallam gave the Blues the opening goal, finishing off a pass from first-year forward Camron Randall. The goal was Hallam's tenth of the season as the Victoria native leads U SPORTS in scoring through eight matches.
The Ravens would get one back in the 56
th minute as Yusuf Osman found the back of the net. The Ravens kept momentum on their side, pressing in the Blues zone. A strong defensive performance by Toronto held the fort to keep any dangerous chances out of harms way. In goal, second-year goalkeeper Shane Perera made some of the best of his seven saves on in the afternoon affair.Â
The pace picked up in the 90
th minute with both teams generating chances in search of a game-winning goal. The Ravens got two crosses but Perera punched away the first cross before swallowing up the second one. At the other end, U of T earned a free kick after crossing midfielder but weren't able to change the score. The Ravens got one last chance but shot the ball wide of the net prior to the final whistle being blown.
The Blues will now turn their attention to the Nipissing Lakers when they clash in North Bay, Ont., on Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:15 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on
