The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 on Sunday (Oct. 4) afternoon in North Bay.
Following the road victory, Toronto hold a 5-2-2 (W-L-T) record. With three games remaining in the regular season, the Blues are in a battle for postseason positioning with five teams in the OUA East all within reach of each other.
In the Sunday victory, U of T were able to score all three goals in the first half to easily build a lead which the Lakers could not overcome.
Third-year forward Niklas Hallam continued to grow his scoring streak to seven straight games with the first goal of the match after just five minutes of play. Hallam was the beneficiary of a cross into the box from fourth-year midfielder Quinton Chung, deflecting in his OUA leading 11
th goal of the season.
Next, fourth-year forward Andrea Schifano delivered a strong left-footed strike into the lower right corner to make it a two-goal lead for the Blues just past the 40-minute mark. Second-year forward Gianluca Scurti rounded out the Blues goal scoring with a sliding strike on a through ball from Schifano in front of the Nipissing goal right before the halftime whistle.
Following the break, U of T's defence took over. Through the entirety of the 90 minute contest, Toronto limited the home side to just three total shots and just one shot on goal.
