CIS/CCA MEN’S CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 4 RECAP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's curling team wrapped up the 2014 CIS/CCA curling championship with a narrow 10-7 loss to the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday morning in Regina.

The OUA champion Blues finish the championship 2-5 in their second-ever national bonspiel appearance.

"I think the final standings don't feel the way the guys played this weekend," said Varsity Blues head coach John Rudd. "I'm proud of the guys and that last game just shows that they don't stop fighting and sometimes they claw back and sometimes they don't. They just have a lot of character and it really shows."

Draw 7: Toronto vs Saint Mary's

Saint Mary's opened the game with one point in the first, but Blues skip Evan Lilly drew to the button for a single to even the score after two ends. The Huskies added one more in the third and stole three in both the fourth and fifth to build an 8-1 lead midway through the game.

After the Huskes earned a single in the sixth, the Blues took two in the seventh. A raise double take out by Lilly in the eighth end allowed U of T to steal three and U of T cut the deficit to just two (9-7) with a single in the ninth.

Despite an amazing shot by Lilly to put the Blues in tying position, Huskies skip Scott Babin drew to the button to earn the win.
