The University of Toronto men's and women's curling teams competed in the Brock University Bonspiel on Saturday Jan. 17 and Sunday Jan. 18 in St. Catharines. The Blues men's team finished the weekend with a 3-0-1 (W-L-T) record, while the women finished with a 2-2 record.
In a 2-0 Saturday for the men's team, the Blues began the day with a 6-4 win over the Western Mustangs. In the evening, an impressive showing led them to a 9-3 win over the McMaster Marauders. Looking to carry their momentum into Sunday, the Blues and York Lions finished in a 6-6 draw but Toronto rebounded against the TMU Bold with an 8-4 win to cap off an unbeaten bonspiel.
On the women's side, the Blues began the weekend by edging out the Mustangs with a 7-6 win. In the night-cap, they fell 7-3 to McMaster. Sunday afternoon, the Blues rebounded with a 9-1 rout of the York Lions before a narrow 6-5 loss to the TMU Bold.
Both Blues teams will now turn their attention to the OUA Curling Championships at the Welland Curling Club. The tournament kicks off on Friday (Feb. 6) with the women's first game taking place at 8 a.m., against the Carleton Ravens and the men will take on the Western Mustangs at 1 p.m.
