OUA MEN’S SOCCER SEMIFINAL PREVIEW: TORONTO VS YORK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team takes on the No. 1 York Lions in OUA semi-final action on Saturday, November 1 at 3 p.m. at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ont.

The winner of the semifinal will advance to the CIS championship, November 6-9, at the University of P.E.I., and will face the winner of McMaster/Ryerson in the OUA final on Sunday.  All games will be streamed live on OUA.tv.

U of T finished the season in second place in the East with an 11-3-2 record and defeated the Queen's Gaels 1-0 to earn a spot in the Final Four for the first time since 2011.

York finished atop the OUA West standings with a 14-0-2 record and defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-0 on Sunday to advance to the Final Four.

Toronto is 7-4 in post-season meetings with York, dating back to 1972. The Blues last defeated the Lions 4-1 in semi-final action in 2011.

It will be a battle of the best as U of T veteran striker Kilian Elkinson earned OUA East MVP honours and York's striker Jarek Whiteman boasted West MVP laurels.

Toronto boasted five all-stars in Elkinson, Mario Kovacevic, Ezequiel Lubocki, Devon Bowyer and Lukas MacNaughton, while York placed six players to the West all-star list in Whiteman, Casey D'Mello, Daniel Fabrizi, Jonathan Lao, Joey Cicchillo and Matt Stinson.

Tickets can be purchased in advance starting Tuesday, October 28.  An adult day pass will cost $15 while a weekend pass to the OUA Soccer Final Four will cost $25.  Students/youth (with valid student ID) can take in the daily action for $10 while a weekend pass will cost $15.  Admission is free for children under five years of age.
