BLUES BASEBALL SPLITS WITH WARRIORS

The two-time OUA defending champion Varsity Blues baseball team fell 11-9 and bounced back with a 7-6 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday (Sept. 22) at Jack Couch Park.
 
The Blues are now 5-5, while the Warriors improve to 7-4 on the year.
 
Toronto found themselves down 9-0 after two innings in the first game of the day. The Blues responded with three in the third and five in the fourth, but were unable to completed the comeback in the 11-9 loss.

Jonathan Isaac led the team with two hits and three RBI, while Andrew Mannone added one hit and two RBI. Both Kyle Bowers and Tanner Young-Schultz had two hits in the loss.

The Blues got out to a better start in the second game, leading 5-0 after the top of the third. The Warriors scored three in the bottom of the frame, but the Blues responded with single runs in both the fourth and fifth.

Waterloo almost completed the comeback, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Blues pitcher Marek Deska struck out Brandon Beattie to end the game in favour of U of T.

Deska pitched all seven innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out seven.  Bowers had two hits and two RBI, while Kyle Batts had one hit and two RBI in the win.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action on Tuesday, September 24 as they head to St. Catharines, Ont., to take on the Brock Badgers.
